CloudNine Resorts

Bill Shoaf Managing Director

The founder of CloudNine ResortClubs, with over 35 years of international experience with deluxe resorts, hotels, and private clubs, has been instrumental in the development and operation of properties broadly recognized as the best in the world for service, quality and innovation.

During the span of engagements with Rosewood Hotels, GigaHotels, Rafael Group Hoteliers, and Auberge Resorts, as well as assignments with individually owned resort properties and private clubs, re-engineering, or new product development, for these deluxe properties became a key focus of the founder. These efforts included concept creation, product development, and successful implementation of innovative, and profitable, programs which became the cornerstones to the success of these resorts. Some noteworthy projects included:
  • Concept creation and operational execution for The Bungalows at Mauna Lani Bay Hotel on the Big Island of Hawaii. The Bungalows were the first ultra luxury suite residences of their kind when introduced and are credited with redefining this segment of the industry.
  • Development and execution of the master plan for Robert Redford's Sundance Resort which resulted in the resort redefining itself from a regional property to an internationally recognized destination resort. Sundance is the only condominium resort to have been selected for the Conde Nast Gold List and Travel & Leisure's Top Ten.
  • The creation of the renovation master plan for The San Ysidro Ranch in Santa Barbara for Auberge Resorts. The rebirth of this 100 year old retreat in the foothills of Santa Barbara resulted in numerous awards and accolades and re established the Ranch as the "hideaway of the stars".
  • Re-engineering and complete renovation of the historic Elbow Beach Resort in Bermuda. Now recognized as the premier beach resort in Bermuda, the Elbow Beach, upon reopening, was the first new resort on the island in twenty five years to achieve a four diamond rating.
While with Rosewood Hotels Bill directed the food and beverage operations for the flagship Mansion on Turtle Creek which was designated the number one restaurant in the world by Conde Nast. He was also part of the corporate development team during the renovation of the Hotel Bel Air and development of The Hotel Hana Maui.

Bill's operational knowledge and his years of professional experience have included not only hotel management but has been involved in construction management, concept development, and re-engineering for resorts, hotels and private clubs worldwide totaling over $400 million of equity investments.

Bill is an honors graduate of Cornell University, School of Hotel Administration. Bill was invited to speak at the United Nations Environmental Conference on "Sustainable Cities" to discuss the economic and environmental dynamics of Robert Redford's Sundance Resort as it pertained to sustainable tourism. In 1986, along with Jack Cakebread of Cakebread Cellars, Bill co-founded The American Harvest Workshop, an organization dedicated to the development of cottage industries for American Food and Wine. Most recently, Bill was asked to address the 2006 Fractional Interest Symposium as a panel expert on the development and management of ultra luxury condominium resorts.

PARTNER COMPANIES

CloudNine ResortClubs believes that the creation and operation of unique resorts, which key off the location and culture of the host community, precludes the use of "formulas" and requires a fresh approach to each property. To provide concept flexibility, as well ensure the array of skill sets and expertise needed to implement the programs developed, CloudNine Resorts has formed a series of strategic partnerships. Each of the groups included in this alliance represent a key discipline and / or skill set that can be brought to a project as needed to ensure timely execution and overall project success. Each partner company is not only an industry leader but has had past project related experiences with CloudNine – creating time tested working relationships which ensures each project a seamless, fully integrated development and operations team.

Over the course of fifteen years Bill Shoaf of CloudNine ResortClubs has worked with the FreemanGroup to help develop and implement service quality assurance programs at Mauna Lani Bay Hotel, San Ysidro Ranch, Sundance Resort, and Elbow Beach Resort. A partnership between the two companies has been formed to not only implement the FreemanGroup systems in all CloudNine properties but to use these properties as working test centers to further improve and enhance the quality assurance methods and systems in a real world environment.
